Adidas plans to cut 3.4 pct of Reebok workforce

Kuehnen, Eva. "Adidas plans to cut 3.4 pct of Reebok workforce." http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSLF36220820090115. Janurary 15,

Adidas bought Reebok in 2006. the latest news is that they will be cutting 3.4% of their entire workforce. The Idea is to become a leaner, more flexible work force. Reebok had a 15 % drop in third-quarter sales. Adidas plans on cutting this work force down.

This was a news report from the beginning of the recession. I don't know if this is happening because of the recession or because of the 'strike' on Reebok... I would hope strike but most likely not. I have not been please with Reebok. Any way This is the little bit I found on it.

News Paper STRIKE!

Barnett, Emma. "Rupert Murdoch to remove News Corp's content from Google 'in months'." Telegraph.co.uk. 13 November 2009.http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsbysector/mediatechnologyandtelecoms/digital-media/6559694/Rupert-Murdoch-to-remove-News-Corps-content-from-Google-in-months.html

Jonathan Miller (Digital officer of News Corp) say he is ready to block all internet access to the news paper. Google is to vast and the News industry can not stay afloat if you can access it for free on the internet. Google is a gigantic research device and it is really putting a dent in the news papers budget. Some news papers only let you view the first couple paragraphs of each article, but once one person get it they can post it on another web page that is easily accessed by google. This defeats the purpose of the news companies. Mr. Miller said they will be taking action on this in the next few months.

I can see why the news papers are getting mad about this. You really can look up anything on google. for instance I looked up the news article for this and it didn't cost me a penny. I have a feeling that if they take there news of the internet that they will soon be over looked and the will dramatically loose business. Personally I love google and I do not have any problem with how vast the search is. It will be interesting to see what comes next in the News paper strike.

Youth crime news: Media are problem, media are the solution

Jamieson, Robert L. "Media are problem, media are the solution." Seattle-pi. 10 Apr. 2001.
http://www.seattlepi.com/jamieson/17979_robert10.shtml

The media might create a lot of problems and conflicts in our lives but I also provides many solutions and Answers. The media has lots of pictures, especially with news on the T.V., about important events. "But increasingly those images are providing a distorted, if dire, view of adolescents and crime, according to a national study to be released today." But on the other hand, would we get the full picture unless we got those strong images?
"The report said: "The problem is not the inaccuracy of individual stories, but that the cumulative choices of what is included -- or not included -- in the news presents the public with a false picture of higher frequency and severity of crime than is actually the case."" So, We either risk the chance of not having a full story or having the full story but from 'one point of view'.

I can see both sides of this argument. We talk about this in class all the time. I think the media really does have corrupted points of view, but I can see the need for the full story even if it was filmed by just one person. It is really hard for me personally to take a side on this topic.

Siting The Document!!!

I am really sorry! I forgot to site the source of, "18 And Under Texting, Surfing, Studying?"

This is my (source using MLA)

Klass, Perri. "18 And Under Texting, Surfing, Studying?" The New York Times. 12 Oct. 2009.

18 And Under Texting, Surfing, Studying?

When do we study? Learn? These are very important questions. In this news article they asked even a better question. How do we study? It is very common for people to sit down, while they are studying and doing homework, and turn on music, text, watch a movie. This article presented very important evidence that while we are plugged into the media our learning is inhibited. In this article it quotes: “The truth is you don’t really multitask, you just think you do; the brain can’t process two high-level cognitive things.”. How much do we learn from a math book if we are plugged into the web? How affective is our 'French Study' when we have head phones on? A professor of psychology, Harris M. Cooper, said, One of the things that homework is supposed to do for us is help us generalize where we feel we can learn.”
This problem has really concerned many people. We all need to be watching our self's and making sure we have adopted good study habits.

This makes so much sense! When I logged on to "Blogger" to create a post, I turned on some good old Rock music. I WAS DOING EXACTLY WHAT THIS ARTICLE WAS ABOUT! I was studying and doing homework while being plugged into my phone and listening to music. As soon as I read more into it I turned off the music. It grew silent, but I could think. I agree in that we all need to be more conscious about this. I really think this applies to more than studying though... it applies to all out door activities too. Shame on the runners who have ear phones in! We can not double-task. We all need to change the way we do somethings when it comes to involving the media.

Media addiction is killing us in 7 ways

Barnes, Seth. "Media addiction is killing us in 7 ways." 26 April. 2007. http://www.sethbarnes.com/?filename=media-addiction-is-killing-us-in-7-ways

Seth has stated once again what we have been learning in our class. The wrong affects that the media has on our lives, but he has interestingly picked our seven specific ways that the media does so.
  1. The News- We believe what they tell us no matter what/ They mostly tell us the "Bad News"
  2. Noise- We grow use to the constant sound of music in the back ground and such. It is not natural.
  3. Moral Decay- Our view on life is significantly distorted by the viewing of sex, violence, and profanity.
  4. A.D.D.- We become "Channel Flippers" and can't focus on one thing for too long.
  5. Mind~Numbing- We are watching some else's life in stead of living our own.
  6. Poor People Skills- We are forgetting how to talk. Our "virtual" relationships are taking over.
  7. Bad Decision~Making- What we learn from the media is not necessarily real. Especially the shows on TV.
He has related all of these things to a more spiritual side of the perspective, So some of the stuff he said is left out.

How I feel about this... I agree. The things he has brought out and listed are, what I believe, all valid statements.  These are all problems. The way he has stated them though concerning a spiritual look, I am not so sure about. I believe he is not LDS. If you would like to look over the different ways that he connected it spiritually you can always check the website listed in the (source) at the top of the post. But With the core meaning of what he is saying, I send my support.

Icann gains independence from the US

Meyer, David. "Icann gains independence from the US" ZDnet. 30 Septeber, 2009.  http://news.zdnet.co.uk/internet/0,1000000097,39780163,00.htm?tag=mncol;txt

When I saw this the first question I had was, "What is Icann?". Icann stands for, The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers. Icann is an internet body that mostly worked with top priority information for the government such as, domain-name system management and IP addresses. Why would they sign away from the USA and become a completely independent organization? Beckstrom says, "One world, one internet, everyone connected — this is our goal at Icann,". Now the Icann is not attached to any one, we can expect to see more from them in the near future. Icann will help monitor transactions and lessen fraud. They are now becoming world wide. Many are saying that this is just one more step to a more advanced way of life in the future.

My response to this article is Go For It! I am always excited to hear about Technology upgrades, and if its going to make out life safer then i am all in for it. if the main purpose of all of this is to lessen fraud/scam, then I don't think it is going to work... No mater what we do there will always be some bad guys who beats the system. I this that Icann becoming independent is a good thing. Lets just try to make the best of it.
